Access and Rights

The Journal of Rural and Tropical Nursing (JRTN) supports open and transparent research practices. Authors are encouraged to make the data underlying their published findings openly available and to include a Data Availability Statement in their manuscript.

Data Availability Statement

All manuscripts submitted to JRTN must include a Data Availability Statement in the Declarations section. The statement must describe whether the data underlying the findings are available, where they can be accessed, and any restrictions on access. When data cannot be shared, a clear explanation must be provided.

Data openly available State the repository name, the persistent identifier or DOI, and the access conditions. Example: "The dataset supporting the findings of this study is available in OSF at [DOI]."
Data available on request State that the data are available from the corresponding author on reasonable request, and briefly explain why open deposit is not possible (e.g., ethics restrictions, third-party data ownership).
Data not available Provide a clear explanation for why the data cannot be shared, for example because the data are owned by a third party, because the ethics approval prohibits sharing, or because participant re-identification is a material risk.
No new data generated For review articles and methodological papers that do not generate primary data, the statement should note that no new data were generated or analysed in this study.

Recommended Repositories

JRTN recommends depositing data in a publicly accessible, persistent repository before submission.

OSF (Open Science Framework) A free, open-source platform for research management and data sharing. Suitable for most health and nursing research data types.
Zenodo A multidisciplinary repository hosted by CERN. Assigns DOIs and supports versioning. Accepts datasets, code, and supplementary materials.
Figshare Supports a wide range of file types and assigns persistent identifiers. Suitable for figures, datasets, posters, and other supplementary content.
Institutional repositories Data may also be deposited in the authors' institutional repository, provided a persistent identifier is assigned and the data are publicly accessible.
